Fibroid Treatment Without a Hysterectomy

Centennial Hills Hospital now offers Sonata®, an incision-free solution for fibroids. This non-invasive procedure is designed to reduce fibroid symptoms while preserving the uterus.

Sonata can address many fibroid types, sizes and symptoms, such as pelvic pain, bloating and frequent urination, without a hysterectomy.

What are uterine fibroids?

Fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) growths in or around the uterus. They can be as small as an apple seed and as large as a grapefruit and may cause uncomfortable symptoms. These symptoms may worsen over time if the fibroids are left untreated.

Three young women laughingSymptoms of fibroids include:

  • Heavy periods (heavy menstrual bleeding)
  • Pressure or swelling in the abdomen
  • Painful periods (dysmenorrhea)
  • Frequent urination
  • Constipation
  • Infertility
  • Painful sex

How Sonata works

The Sonata treatment uses an intrauterine ultrasound handpiece to locate and target the individual fibroids. Radiofrequency energy is delivered to shrink the fibroid and reduce symptoms over time. The fibroids are treated from inside the uterus, so the Sonata treatment requires no incisions in the abdomen, no tissue is cut or surgically removed, and the uterus is preserved.
