Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center Receives Heart Failure Accreditation

Receives Heart Failure AccreditationMay 27, 2010

Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center has received full Cycle I Heart Failure Accreditation status from the Accreditation Review Committee of the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). The accreditation was effective on May 20, 2010 and will expire on May 19, 2013.

Heart failure is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Approximately 5 million patients in the United States have heart failure. In addition, heart failure patients are responsible for 12 to 15 million visits to physician offices per year and 6.5 million days of hospital stays. The goal of the Society of Chest Pain Centers is to help facilities manage the heart failure patient more efficiently and improve patient outcomes.

Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center's protocol driven and systematic approach to patient management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment, and to risk stratify patients to decrease their length of stay. Key areas in which a facility with Heart Failure Accreditation must demonstrate expertise include:

  • Emergency Department Integration with Emergency Medical Services
  • Emergency Assessment of Patients with Symptoms of Acute Decompensated Heart Failure-Diagnosis
  • Risk Stratification of the Heart Failure Patient
  • Treatment for Patients Presenting to the Emergency Department in Heart Failure
  • Heart Failure Discharge Criteria from the Emergency Department, Observation Stay or Inpatient Stay
  • Heart Failure Patient Education in the Emergency Department, Observation and Inpatient Unit
  • Personnel, Competencies and Training
  • Process Improvement
  • Organizational Structure and Commitment
  • Heart Failure Community Outreach

Centennial Hills Hospital is also an accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, making it the second hospital in Nevada with dual accreditation.

About the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC)
Founded in 1998, the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC) is a non-profit international society dedicated to the belief that heart disease can be eliminated as the number one cause of death worldwide. Because we know that time translates to muscle during a heart emergency, the Society bridges EMS, emergency medicine, cardiology, nursing and other professions jointly focused upon improving timely, quality care for cardiac patients.

In order to disseminate shared practices and processes in heart care the Society promotes protocol-based medicine and the adoption of process improvement science by healthcare providers, ideally delivered through a Chest Pain Center model, to address acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, and processes of care for the short stay acute heart failure patient.

The Society of Chest Pain Centers is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. For more information, visit www.scpcp.org.
